The fifth piece of my costume collection, a black silk and velvet bodice from the 1860s. This is a tiny bodice, measuring about 28 inches at the bust and 23 at the waist. The body is lined with a heavy cotton twill, the sleeves with a light brown polished cotton. The bodice has the typical 1860s dropped shoulders, piped seams and seams angled towards the back. The bodice is entirely hand sewn.
