A c. 1877 Natural Form Bodice

Details of the finishing stitches used on the armscye and shoulder seams.

The bodice has loops for hanging on each underarm.

The gathers in the sleeves were basted into place before the sleeve seam was sewn with machine stitching. Both the basting and hand gathering stitches were left in place.

Details of the cuff from the inside. The top edge of the facing was turned under and neatly whipstitched into place.

There are a few large stitches that can be seen in the sleeve lining, presumably to hold the layers together better.

The underarm of the striped sleeve is pieced. It's sewn to the lining along the piecing line.
