An Edwardian Dress

c. 1910

The second addition to my antique costume collection.  The dress is  made of black silk, trimmed with velvet ribbon and velvet covered buttons and lined in brown cotton.  The dress appears to be made from an earlier (perhaps 1860s?) dress.  The seam allowance on the center back seam is approximately 9" and shows stitch marks which resemble those used for gauging.  It's in remarkably good shape.  The silk is strong and the only damage is a small horizontal tear in the left sleeve (visible as a small brown dot in this picture).
